Painting with BalloonsThis activity is good for allowing and promoting children’s creativity and imagination. This is due to the children being able to create freely using simple but effective props in an open-ended and unstructured activity. This activity is also excellent for children’s fine motor skills to hold the balloon and dip it into the paint and then the paper. The children can also use their gross motor skills to move the balloon around and roll them around, it also has a great sensory aspect as children can use their hands to manipulate the paint and balloons to create patterns and prints onto paper. For this activity they will need six balloons (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple), paint in a palette to match up with the balloons (red balloon in red paint) and paper.

The activity can inspire creativity and imagination as children can transform can reinvent the box into whatever they’d like. The children can explore their own imaginary places such as turning the box into a castle, bus, car, train, house or anything they think of. The items needed for this activity is a large cardboard box, pens and possibly stickers, stamps and paint. Whilst in the box children will also be using their fine and gross motor skills to draw, colour, paint and sticker the box to create it in their own way.

Sparkly Fireworks Sensory Tub This is a simple sensory activity for children to explore different textures of materials like glitter, slime and pom poms. Through the activity the children can make the slime, and add food colouring, glitter or whatever they would like in order to make the activity open-ended. To extend the activity to promote children’s fine motor skills by picking out the pom poms with tweezers or if they do not have access to these, they can use their fingers. This is also good for children to see how different ingredients make slime, adds colour and different textures for touch and feel.
